Help, I need input on who makes good laptops..

I need to get a good laptop. I want a 15.4" wide screen display, and a good video card. I'd like to keep the cost under say $2,000. Most importantly I want a good reliable laptop.

So far I have looked at Dell's, Thinkpads and HP. I can't find any useful reviews online.
What should I do???

Edit, one more thing. This laptop is going to get a lot of use, I don't really care about the weight, I only bring it home on weekends.

Right now leaning towards T60 widescreen, just because I heard thinkpads are decent. Can't find any good reviews... How the the HPs?
 
Do I dare suggest a 15-inch MacBook Pro?

If you're a college or university student (even if it's part-time), you can get (IIRC) a $200 discount on a shiny new Core 2 Duo-based model. There are also refurbished Core Duo models in the Special Deals section of Apple's online store for less, though you may need to get more RAM than you would if you bought a new system.

They've got great CPUs, decent video, and lots of storage. The MagSafe connector might also save your hide if a roommate or friend snags the power cord with their foot.
 
maybe the reason it is like a business laptop is be cause IT IS... IBM is mostly business customers which is y they are so pricy they can afford it..

Funny...my X40 has a mic.

If you requre raw functionality (and no namby-pamby video card nonsense), the Thinkpad is the only option.

If you want a little more oomph and a lot of style, Asus is the way to go. (Coincidentally, Asus makes the MacBooks, which helps explain why they're excellent laptops - for raw CPU muscle, they're nearly unmatched.)

If you are a masochist, buy a Dell.

I went with a thinkpad. Hopefully the ATI X1400 video card is good. I'm not a huge gamer so its not a big deal if its bad.
