Man I need to find some old person who needs a friend and would let me stay with them fro free or at least pay for utilities.

My friend lived in some extended-stay type place when he had a 6 month assignment in DC. It was pretty nice and right near a metro stop. I'll try and find out what it was. No idea how much it cost though, the govt paid for it.

EDIT: It was the Meridian in Arlington. It was definitely a hotel, but the extended stay apartments were nice.

That would be nice if I had company to pay for it 🙂

Check out Tower 2000 in the Landmark area, in Virginia. 5800 Quantrell Ave. They have efficiencies there for around $800, incl. util. Been a few years, but it's still a decent neighborhood. Near busline.
Landmark? Huh? I don't think I'd hang out after dark in that area. About 11 years ago, my wife was a retail manager at a store in Landmark Plaza. Several incidents happened during the 1.5 year period that she was there:

- Front glass window was broken in the middle of the night. The alarms went off and she had to camp in the parking lot until the glass folks arrived with plywood to cover the hole up.

- Store was burglarized in the middle of the night. The safe was placed into a shopping cart that they had in the store and it was removed from the premise. Cart and safe was found a short distance away.

- Store was robbed by armed, masked individual. Nobody was shot, but the bajeezus was scared out of the employees.

- Lots of shoplifting incidents. My wife had to make monthly court appearances on behalf of her store.

Most of the crime is attributed to the close proximity to I-395. It's easy for a criminal to get out of the Landmark area and back onto the Interstate relatively easy.

Yeah, Tower 2000 is behind Landmark Plaza. In fact, that's a good shortcut to Duke St. But that's just life in these United States. Crime is everywhere.
I think they still have the bullet holes in the coolers at the KFC across the street. It was robbed about 25 years ago when it was a Roy Rogers. Employees were shot. Same thing. Easy access to 395. The neighborhood has gone downhill from then, but it's still a pretty safe neighborhood.
The biggest problem I had was the "gang" of teenagers roaming the neighborhood. But we had an understanding about whose's neighborhood it was. They pretty much left me and my vehicles alone. Last time I was thru there I noticed there was a fence around the parking lot, that should cut down on a lot of the BS.
Beats Cathloic and Howard U. neighborhoods. I'm always armed when I'm in those neighborhoods. Rule #1: never show both your hands.

Aside from the armed robbery, that all sounds pretty tame. I don't think you'll find a truly crime-free neighborhood anywhere in the DC area. I doubt that many people would consider Gerogetown a high-crime area, but I have friends that have been mugged there, and there was that little incident at Starbuck's. I still wouldn't hesitate to live there ($ notwithstanding).

Nope, that's not it. It's near the Courthouse metro stop. I'll see if I can find any info on it.
