I've had NOTHING but problems with my Volcano 9 and I need a new HS/F for my Athlon XP 2400+. I am taking the Volcano 9 back tomorrow and getting something else. I'd really appreciate input on what I should get. I've heard TAK58, SK-6 with a nice fan... I just want something that's not annoyingly loud and can cool nicely. A nice medium would be best, but if I can get the best of both worlds then yay for me!

I know I've already posted a topic about this a couple weeks ago, but I stopped looking at my thread when I thought I had the Volcano 9 under control.

Hope to get some good advice soon...

Thanks

Thermalright SK-7 and a Panaflo L1A. I recommend the SK-7 to just about everybody- it's performance is so near the SLK-800 and -900, yet it's about half the prive of the -900.

What have been your problems with the Volcano? Godmares suggestion is good. It will be very quiet compared to the Volcano. If the quiet isnt a big factor then you may want to look into something a little more powerful while staying below 30dB or so. The L1A would be adequate though.

The problem I had was the manual seemed to say I had to install both power connectors and I did that. Then the fan kept shutting off and my system then would do the same. Before the speed control wouldn't work, but that's because I had the temperature sensor connected.

Anyway, the fan is now connected to the power supply only and therefore I have no way to monitor the fan speed. I'm trying to find the best solution for cooling that will allow me to monitor the fan speed, and also won't be so noisy and still cool well. I'm sure everyone wants that combo, so include me in the list. :)

I have my Volcano 9 plugged into the three pin connector on my board without the temp sensor hooked up and it works fine. The problem I had with the temp sensor was that it wouldn't fit well under the chip and I couldn't boot with it under there. I just use the little rheostat knob now to adjust it up and down. Works great. If the fan isn't working you could just get a high rpm 80mm case fan and replace the one on the Volcano 9 with that. One of those 5000rpm Sanyo Denki's would work good.

Thermaltake Smart case fans 2 draw 8.04w at full power, that's way too much for a motherboard's fan header. Use the 3- to 4-pin molex adapter with the seperate rpm lead to the mobo.
You're lucky you haven't wasted your header yet.
