I decided to try to install Gentoo Linux last night. I went through the instructions from their website. What ended up happening was that I used hda1, my windows partition (I didn't know that at the time...the lack of GUI sort of messed me up). I never formatted the partition, so the data should still be there. Anyway, now Windows won't boot. To make matters worse, I couldn't boot off of my Windows XP CD! It started the part where it detects the hardware, and then everything stopped. I think that if i can get to boot onto the CD I can fix my Windows install and then fix the problem. Any ideas on what might be going on? As I said, it starts to boot off of the Windows CD, but then it stops. Thanks!

Btw, I installed Mandrake Linux so that I could use my computer. It is on annother partition though, so it should be fine. Thanks again!

If you hit "w" while in fdisk your done. I did the same thing yesterday with Win2K and Gentoo.
I partitioned it like I wanted and fdisk found the W2K partitions. I'm still not sure what the hell happened but when I booted back to Winders it was running like molassus in January.
Flush the drive and start over.

The problem is that I can't boot onto my Windows CD. Is that what you're saying I should do, or what do you mean?
