Help I lost all my photos on my SD card!

So I filled up my 512mb memory card full of pictures and I wanted to upload the pictures to my computer via a SD card reader.

As soon as I plugged it in, my computer crashed, and when I restart it, ALL of the photos on my SD card were gone! Now when I plug my sd card into the reader, it no longer reads.

How can I get the pictures back? I hear there are data recovery programs available.
