help please - I just blew my Samsung monitor:
Any suggestions for the next trouble shooting steps before I purchase a new monitor?
I usually have this LCD Samsung monitor (Model SyncMaster 226BW) for use on my desktop, and I just now attached it for brief use on a much older laptop where the resolution was set to 1600 X 1200, and after about five minutes of use, the monitor made a buzzing sound and went to a black image (no image). The medium-loud buzzing sound is an electrical hiss coming from the lower right portion of the back of the monitor.
1280 x 768 is the highest resolution recommended for use by this Samsung monitor, and the instruction manual says that running at higher resolution could damage the monitor ... I neglected to remember this fact when briefly attaching the monitor to another computer where I have never used this monitor.
I switched the monitor back to my desktop, checked the resolution and color settings on the Nvdia video card, have "reset" the monitor by unplugging VGA cable and power cord at both ends, have tried everything four times with a reboot separating all the attempts....the only result I can achieve is to have the image view remain active for as much as a minute before it goes black.
I have used the Automatic Settings button on the monitor itself, and the Source button on the monitor...none of these help. I still have a black monitor, with the inability to achieve images except for seconds at a time.
The buzzing sound is only present once in a while now. I have only maintained power to the monitor about twenty minutes since moving it
back to the desktop. I am leaving the monitor turned off now until I know more.
Any suggestions for the next trouble shooting steps before I purchase a new monitor?
thank you very much in advance.
