I threw my back this weekend or something. the pain is very bad. it's in my lower back, if I remain upright it's just a dull throb, but if I bend or God forbid twist I get shooting pains in my lower back, sometimes it's enough to cause my knees to buckle.

I Just took 800Mg ibuprofen(?) and have these heating patch things that tape to my back called "salonpas" their buring sensation is keeping my mibd off the pain a little

I am thinking about going to see a dr. but I hate doing so. should I goto my GP or to a chiropracter?

Osteopath. They can put your back back in place, and prescribe pain meds. Chiros just put you back together, can't give you prescription meds.

Moist heat, long hot showers, works best.

I first went to my doctor because I needed a note to go back to work. He gave a sheet which described recommended stretching exercises and prescription for an anti-.inflammatory and a muscle relaxer.

I went to a chiro because three weeks later I still had a lot of discomfort. After three chiro treatments I was back to where I started. This took me about six weeks.

Run of the mill MDs will most likely give you pain meds and muscle relaxants and tell you to stay in bed for a couple weeks hoping that your back will magically put itself back into place. I have no confidence in them anymore after throwing my back out a couple times. Go see an osteopath. (They will have D.O. after their names instead of MD)

my uncles a doc maybe he can call me in some percocet? ;) j/k
I hate drugs, my sis-in-law has a good chiropractor she swears by. I'll see how I feel in the AM, then decide chiro or D.O.

I hurt my lower back twice in 2 years and I know the pain. It sucks hard.

Get your doctor to prescribe you some Naproxen which are anti-imflammatory pills. Those things are miracle pills. You will feel better within 30 min of taking it. It's amazing.

Take those pills along with some cold/heat pads and you should heal pretty fast unless you ruptured a disc in which case you'd have a hernia and you'd be in some serious trouble, not to mention tons of pain. But it sounds like you just pull some muslces in your lower back.

Also, when you sleep, kinda sleep in a half fetal position with a pillow between your legs, this will help take off pressure on your back.

Hope you get well soon. Lower back pain is one of the most painful and irritating injuries cuz you just can't do sh!t w/o your lower back.

This might sound stupid, but whenever I throw out my back (which is more often than I'd like), I just slowly bend it to where it hurts. Yes, it hurts like hell, yes it's almost unbearable, but once it's done, it's done - and I don't have to live with it being a major PITA for another week.

But that's just me.

HonkeyDonk: Don't need to see a doctor to get Naproxen. Same thing as Aleve. Costco has the generic for about ten bucks/500. Something like that. When I had a prescription for it (Anaprox), one pill (dose) was the same as 2.5 OTC Aleve/Naproxen Sodium.

Heat is NOT the best thing for a bad back if you've pinched a nerve.

Did this come out of the blue when you moved the wrong way or after doing something strenuous? Are pains shooting down the fronts of your legs?

Ice packs work best for nerves, or lay on the floor with your butt up against a couch and your legs up on the sitting area of the couch

If you are brave enough to try and put it back into place try lying on the floor on your back. Put your arms out so as to keep your shoulders on the floor and raise one leg and try to touch the floor on the opposite side as the leg(twisting your back). Do this with both legs.

it hurts so bad I almost can't stand up if I have been siting or laying down. I usually get up on my knees erect then stnd up while getting my back straight.

Squisher, no pains in the fornt of my legs just my lower back. I can lay on my back and pull my legs upover my head like a half pike position when diving I guess. but if I try to lay on my stomach and keep my legs and hips on the ground while raising my upper torso, the pain hurts like a SOB.

The Chiropractor and the Doctor recommended doing the same stretching exercise:
1. Lay your back and bring one knee to your chest and hold it for a count of ten.
2. Do the same thing with the other knee.
3. Do the same thing with both knees.
4. Do these exercises three times a day.

I find that doing this exercise helps a lot.
