Help I have no idea whats going on

Hello, I hope someone can help?

here is a list of the players within the problem

-Monitor: 17"Generic Plug n Play Monitor, (it did support 85Hz, but now goes black at 85Hz), (it did list itself as a Plug and Play Monitor, but because of the refresh rate thing, I have to change it to 1024x768@75Hz in order just to get a display). This item is 4 years old

-Microsoft DirectX, After upgrading to Direct 8.1 I'm having problems with Direct3D (Direct3D 7 works when tested but Direct3D 8 fails) and because of this a number of games no longer work, how do you fix this? This item is 6 weeks old.

-Gainward Geforce3 PowerPack!!! Ti-450 (Geforce3 Ti200) New Video Card, currently using Nividia Geforce3 Ti200 Ver. 23.11 Drivers,
(I had tryed both Gainward drivers and Nividia drivers both by default try to run the Monitor at 85Hz when set to 1024x768 causing the black screen thing. The only thing that works is setting the monitor type as shown above.

OK whats going on do I have one problem or three, What do I fix first, I've tryed changing different items the problem remains just the names change. And the list of games not working is getting larger.

Please need help.

Try the Detonator 27.52 drivers and Rivatuner 2.0 RC10. Rivatuner 2.0 RC10 has a built in refresh rate fix.

Thank you, will these drivers fix all the problems? and I have to go to a beta driver to fix it?

Is my monitor on it last legs?

Forgot to mention I'm using Win98se, with a PIII 700 CPU, 512mb RAM, and the MB only supports AGP 2X

OK, will the 27.52 drivers work with Win98, it looks like the 27.52 is for 2K/XP,

Also I downloaded the 27.50 drivers , these drivers down load as a zip file and after unzipping then I cannot find a .exe that will install it just run it and it will not run because its not installed, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

You need to right click on "My Computer"
select "Properties"
"Device Manager"
"Display Device"
Nvidia Geforce3
Drivers tab
Update drivers
have disk
browse for the folder with the 27.50's (should be something like c:\unzipped\win9x2750).

Thank you, that worked, I'm now using the 27.50 drivers except for nvdesk32.dll Display management hook library - for that its using 23.11 drivers. Had a little problem with the update not all the files where there

I'm still having the problem with Direct3D 8 Failing, also Max Payne error indicates I need a Direct8 compatable adapter?

any ideas?
