Hi there, I just bought the PCI Radeon from Office Depot and am ready to use it but the manual says I have to disable the on-board graphics capability of my computer.

Here is the manufacturer's spec sheet for this motherboard:

I found the manual online here:

Can someone please help?

Hit Del at the POST, it will enter the BIOS and from there disable onboard graphics.

When you open ur case check the model and company of ur mother board.
Knowing those infos might be very good.
But check in the BIOS like PAY said, and some mobos you can disable the graphics thru JUMPER.

Ok, well, I scoured my motherboard for numbers and words that might help me find out the make or model of it...here's what i got:

686 Amibios

Unisem 3004CW 0003

Rev R02

ID 211850011100511

Bios String = 63-0100-001259-00101111-071595-WHITNEY-1AAEY022-H

2 DIMM SOCKETS

3 PCI SLOTS

Does any of that mean anything?

"What is Jumper?" Sheesh man, read the dang manual will ya!!! What kind of computer is it? Sounds like some prebuilt model what with the 2 Dimm and 3 pci slots. The manual is the best way to find out the model. Try either the bios or the jumper route. You will need the manual to find out which jumper controls the video.

OK. Those infos didnt help us a lot.
What computer you have? COMPAQ? DELL? Any of those?
Or did you build yourself one?
On the top of the CHIPSET is there a heatsink with somethin written on it?
Let us know what model if its a pre-built computer and who made it?
What cpu do you have? Pentium? K6?

Many 810e system boards you can disable it in the bios. On your bootup screen, it should give you the option to press a certain key, most of the time DEL to enter into the system bios and change configuration settings.

Once I get into the BIOS, there are several different screens that I can continue into. Which is the one where I can disable the graphics?

A jumper is just a little short in a little black or red box that you use to short two or more pins together.

If you figure out what mobo you have, most manufacturers will have a PDF or HTML version of the manual you can check.

And Jumper is..well.. look at your motherboard. There should be a lot on them on there. They are standing vertical and the go arround two metal wires.

(excuse the crude grafix...)
_
|_| <--- Little black or red plastic jumper

| | | <--- Three (number doesn't matter, three is real common)

The jumper will fit over two of the wires. (be careful not to move the jumpers, without knowing what you are changing. A bad setting and damage could result.)

Good Luck!

Okay, well I figured out the name of my motherboard. It's the GVC in810s.

Unfortunately, they have no manuals online :<

Ahhh, I see it. But what do I do with jumpers regarding the disabling of my on-board video card?

Who is the OEM who built it (Dell, gateway, Compcrap, etc...)? Go to their website & download the user manual. Some do not let you disable the on-board video. I have a co-worker who bought a POS Gateway, there is no way to disable the on-board stuff & use a PCI video card. We ended up having to get a pair of Voodoo II's in SLI for it.

That's no good. I used motherboards.org's search thing and found it to be made by GVC--a Taiwanese company. Neither their site nor their American siter BCM's site had anything in the way of manuals or customer service. :< Maybe it's just time for me to get a new computer. And once again, I have a worthless video card to get rid of. damn...

Just a question: even if you can't find a way to disable the on-board video, why replace the entire PC? It would be cheaper to just replace the motherboard.

I am going to replace my whole rig in August because it's very behind the times. I found the OD deal on the video card and I figured it might be worth it just to have it for the couple months till then.
