HELP!!!
as the description says i have an ABIT KT7 And an AMD Thunderbird. I originally had a 700Mhz P3, Sold it here on anandtech with my golden orb. When to local Comp Show bought a new "silver orb" (GOLDEN ORB DESIGN ONLY SILVER) and it didnt fit on the cpu. so while i was waiting for the money order for the P3 i used the golden orb since it did fit. time came around and i had to pack up the P3 with Golden orb... used older heatsink that fit. Turn Comp on... next thing i know my Super Disk goes crazy. Turn Comp off. Then back on about 5 min later went into BIOS to have a look at TEMP. IT WAS A WOPPING 181 Degrees F (about 83C). I checked to voltage and it is at CPU DEFAULT. NEXT TIME I TURN IT ON I WATCHED THE TEMP CLIMB 3-6 Degrees every SECOND!!! VERY SCARRY!! well before i go crazy i was woundering what you people could sugest to me. thanks

Make sure you've seated that thing properly so that you're getting good contact with the CPU core. Also, you should be using thermal grease (like Arctic Silver) or a thermal pad.

also, if you're using a thermal pad, make sure the protective foil are removed...

you use both? thats not wise.. use one or the other not both.. and those ORBs don't really work well with the socket A platform. I have a FOP32-1 I run around 84F idle.. 110F under heavy load..

Just what hsf are you using, quote "used an older heatsink that fit".
If its not designed for Socket A (462) its not gonna work. Never use thermal grease AND PCTC pads.
