Like I said, i just got Koolance for this science fair thing of mine. Well, I have an Abit BE6-II raid, p3-600e on a slotket, ibm 75gxp, 512 mb ram pc133 cas3 (1 infineon and 1 micron), guillemot geforce sdr, and windows 2000. When i try to go high, (ie 140x6=840), winnt won't boot up, and it says that my ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt. But when I up the voltage to 1.7, it is alright. Also, when i go too high, (ie 901), it does the same thing, but voltage tweaks don't help. Then i take my ram out, and notice that it is burning to the touch. Do I need pc150 to support these bus speeds? Also, am i supposed to see water actually flowing through these tubes?
One other thing is that my floppy hasn't been working. Comp used to freeze when accessing, so i changed the cable. Now, win2k keeps telling me that i need to format the disk. I click OK, but then it says that it can't complete the format. Physical, or OS problem?
Lastly, do you think i should get a p3-700e flip chip so that i can reach a ghz? That would be nice. Does it matter whether or not I have OEM or retail?
Thanks for your help.

the ntoskernal problems are do to OCing. That's what happens when you've gone a little to high. So you did the right thing with upping the voltage. However it did it again so I'd say you have hit the limit of your chip.

Yes you might need to get better memory. I'd go with crucial pc133 222. You should be able to get around 150fsb with that.

I dunno if your supposed to see water flowing through the tubes.

Get new floppy. only $8.

1) yes you will have to up the voltage, thats just part of the deal.

2) your ram is hot? thats realy weird but its not very likey that pc-150 will get you farther, i would say a p3-600 at 840 is about toped out. granted i could be wrong there.

3) if you put some dye in the water it makes it easier to see it flow.

4) fdds are all on the virge of death the moment they are made, most likey yours is dieing and you just need to replace it.

5) there is no p3-chip out there that will garanty you 1ghz except the p3-1ghz, its just not easy to get those things that high.

6) personaly i like the secrity that the shrinkwraped retal box provides, oem chips always make me worry that someone tried to overclock it and had no luck so they sold it to you instead. but then again not everyone is like me and tries to overclock everything they get their grubby little hands on, so the cheaper price of oem is a vaild argument too.

Sweet case! I thinking about getting one once the DDR P/S problem gets solved.

It is normal for startup to screw up if you don't have enough voltage.

How hot is "burning"? You might want to attach ramsinks or use a fan to blow directly on it.

901Mhz, the chip might be maxed out, getting a 50% overclock form a P3 is good. If you want, get the chipset cooler upgrade for Koolance if you don't have it, or a BLORB

It's pretty hard to see clear water moving through clear tubes.

Check power connections, but I had three FDD crap out me in a year, so just take one from your old comps, if you have any. You can live without a floppy since there are CDRWs, Zip, and stuff like that. Try another OS, but sounds like physical.

Why don't you just get 1GHz chip? a 700 isn't guaranteed to run a 1GHZ. But OEM is cheaper and doesn't include a HSF, which you won't be using anyways

If you want to be sure you hit 1Ghz with a P3 700 you can go to Compuwiz-tech and get one that is pre-tested to hit 1Ghz. It's even less expensive than a 1Ghz chip.
