Help!! I found something in my chicken noodle soup

I was eating a bowl of Campbell's chunky chicken noodle soup for lunch today when all of a sudden I bit into something hard. At first I though maybe it was a leftover chicken bone but after I took it out of my mouth I found out it was a small gold (with rust!) safety pin about an inch long. What the hell was this doing in there??

What do you guys think I should do? Write a letter to the company or call? Maybe I can get some free soup.

Call up Campbells and complain. Milk them for as much as you can. That is pretty nasty that safety pins are in the soup. You shouldn't have to worry about eating rusty pieces of metal.

It was probably just an employees makeshift earring/nosering/genital ring that had fallen out due to an extended case of leprosy - nothing to worry about :)

Agree with everyone. Call them up first. And be polite; never hurts ;) Then ask your doctor whether you'll need any jabs (tetanus comes into mind; but that's for cuts, not sure bout swallowing stuff).

I don't know about sueing....I hate all these sue happy people, especially for stupid stuff like spilling hot coffee on yourself.

Yeah you would probably have a pretty big problem going to court considering how easy it would be to make something like this up. Just hope they give you something decent or anything at all.

Well I just got off the phone with Campbell's. The woman I talked to was really nice she took down all my information and got my address and phone #. She said they were going to send a refund for the soup and enclose a coupon for a new can. Also they are going to send a courier within 24 hours to pickup the can and saftey pin

Geez, you should just go to the local homeless shelter if you wanted free soup.

in other words, they are destroying the evidence before the fda and more importantly the news media finds out :). Oh well, ethics over lawsuit profit - I can respect that :).

If they can gather the evidence quick enough, there's no lawsuit, right? :) You might want to take pictures or something if you do decide to take it further.

don't give it to the courier -- i mean, why would they send a courier if it's no big deal?

I would at least consult a lawyer before giving that can away... I'm not saying sue but if you did come down with something you never know.... Always play it safe :)

are you kidding?? that's all she offered?

call her back, and tell her that's not quite enough. make a counter-offer, then she'll counter that - just make sure you start high - i'd ask for maybe $800 (pocket change considering they left a safety pin in your soup)

I am not a Sue Your Ass type person, but you would be crazy to send them the can and pin. You have nothing if you send it back. I would contact a lawyer for advice. Even if you do not Sue, get real professional advice.

My god I can't believe I actually did this. I just called up someone I know who is a Lawyer. he told me that since it didn't cause an injury I'm basically SOL and lucky to get the free soup. Oh well.
