I created a large BIN file (800MB) and now WindowsXP won't let me delete it. I've tried deleting it, renaming it, moving it... and I always get the same responce: "Cannot delete: It is being used by another person or program.Close any programs that might be using this file and try again."
I've rebooted my system at least 12 times, signed in as different users, closed all non-system programs that were running, tried to delete in safe-mode, command-prompt and debugging mode. My drive is formatted NTFS, so I can't use a boot disk.
The file is causing my computer to slow to a crawl.

Any suggestions?

(It's in XP Pro and my user name is the administrator.)

First, what is the file name, what is it, are you sure it's not an OS file (like the hibernation or paging file). Second, why do you say "The file is causing my computer to slow to a crawl." Unless your completely out of disk space as a result, I don't see how this file slows down your system

Bring up task manager, select the "processes" tab, find what's using that file (don't ask how, you'll know it when you see it) select "end process" or "end process tree" if the prior doesn't work. Delete file...

If you can't find the process using it or don't feel comfortable using this method, boot into safe mode and try deleting...

The file name is "SFU.S2X07.BIN". The file is located in a folder on my desktop. I'm POSITIVE that it's not a system file. The program that I used to create it ( CDRWIN ), isn't running. I even checked in the Task Manager. My system slows down whenever I try to delete, move or rename the file. It stay slowed down for about 5 - 10 minutes after I get the error message. During that time, if I try to get the Task Manager running, it won't start until the system returns to normal. (At which point the 'processes' tab doesn't tell me anything of interest.)

I tried using NTFSDOS PRO (which allows read/write), but I couldn't get it to mount my HD. It's help manual didn't help me. ;P
