Well basically every year for the past oh 5 or so years I've done Intels Retail edge program where you get a new motherboard and processor for a very good price. Well this was the package this year ( minus the RAM, which I purchased from newegg ).

Basically I'm having problems with system stability. I'm not getting any blue screens or anything but after a couple minutes of booting into Vista Ultimate x64 the system will just lock up. There are other random problems but this is the main problem.

So I decided to format and reinstall Vista and now it's not even installing all the way before the system locks up.

I'm guessing it's a memory problem, but I'm really not too sure. I know the motherboard isn't defaulting the memory at it's said speed, and I'd like to try to get it to that point but I'm very thrown off as to how to do that.

So basically if someone could help me figure out the best memory configuration that'd be great.

Here are my options in the BIOS for memory configuration ( with the default settings listed ):

Uncore Multiplier: 16
Memory Multiplier: 8
tCL: 7
tRCD: 7
tRP: 7
tRASmin: 16
tRFC: 59
tRRD: 4
tWR: 8
tWTR: 4
tRTP: 4
tRC: 26
tFAW: 16
Memory Voltage: 1.54
QPI/Uncore Voltage Override: 1.150
Command Rate: Auto
DIMM Refrence Voltage Training: Off

Basically I'm not even sure of a good place to start. I've messed with the CL and the voltage and stuff but it's all just a guessing game for me. If someone could give me some insight as to what I should do that would be great.

Here is a link to the RAM I bought: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820227381

And my system specs are here ( should be accurate ): http://www.ahfunaki.com/rig.html

Thanks in advance...

I've got the exact same setup as you...

The RAM is awful. I did manage to get it running at 1600MHz by lowering the timings to 8:8:8:20, and upping the memory voltage to 1.58. It just won't run at spec at all.

What speed is the RAM @ now?

I see you're running 7-7-7-16 timings @ 1.54v when it's rated for 7-7-7-24 @ 1.65v.

You might wanna start there!

I don't know how the ratios are laid out in your BIOS, but if you cannot get DDR3-1600 @ rated timings/voltages stable, try DDR3-1333 to be safe initially.

Don't waste time installing the OS until you can pass Memtest86+ (which you should be running).

And sockhead, i don't know what kit you have, but most i7 DDR3 kits need at least 1.65v, so you might be having the same issue.
