I have a Zalman CNPS7000-Cu that I am trying to install on top of a PIV 2.4GHz on a MSI 655 Max motherboard. The dang thing seems like it isn't made to fit! There are two bars that I am supposed to insert on the cooler frame and then screw the FHS to the bars but the bars aren't close enough to the screws! I read the installation manual 100 times over, but its just not working and my thermal paste is already on there!!! Please help me!!!

Last Friday I installed the CuAl and it wasn't the easiest niether. You have to put the bars on like this.

Bar 1 ^ CPU Bar 2 ^

Then place the heatsink over the cpu and bars. Use the screws that require a philips not the thumb screws.

...After the fact, did you check the website or forum for compatibility issues?

I subscribed or PM me for a faster responces....I'll be back around 10:30pm est to check this post....

Uhh WHAT? What does ^ mean? I tried turning the bars upside down but then the FHS doesn't even touch the CPU! I tried a quick fix by putting nipples on the bars and then screwing in different screws into those nipples, but now it hovers about 0.5mm above the CPU and it rocks back and forth.

I know not to use the thumb screws, those are for the AMD models. I highly doubt there are any compatibility issues. I have a P4 mobo, a P4, and a FHS thats SUPPOSED to work for a P4.

Thanks for the help man I really appreciate it. I swear, who the hell designs these monsters?

I thought that maybe you meant install the bars, screw the first one, then screw the second one. So I tried that but still nothing. its almost like the screws are too short, or the bars sink too low. You DO insert those bars into the little holes inside the cooling frame on the mother board right? And those bars DO have room to wiggle around right??? Thanks for any help, please make responses as descriptive as possible 🙂

Ok nevermind I finally got it. Its because those freaking wings that the screws are on are slightly bendable, and you bend them downward to get the screw close to the hole. Man, I hope my CPU and mobo are ok after all that. My poor babies, its ok daddies here now!

Anyways, thanks for the help sep!

Roots...I know what ya mean. It's nothing like not knowing if your baby's going to pull through after all that Fxcing around!

Remember...if you move your PC be careful. The weight of the Cu is a little over 1/2 the max recommended by Intel.

No problem...that's what we're here for...right!
