The problem is that i have just installed this mother board (MSI K8N neo2 platinum), i am very pleased with it, except for some reason i am unable to get the onboard Ethernet ports to work.... I have just installed a fresh copy of windows and upon loading up for the first time i try to plug my Ethernet cable and open a web page or even activate my windows, and it just wont work .... It has at the bottom of the page (somtetimes) detecting proxy or somthing, when i try to open a page ... i then check the in network connections and try and repair the connection by clicking on repair ... (i thought that this might solve the problem but it doesnt, and it states that it cant update IP address or somthing... and it then it has a warning triangle appear on the network icon in the systems tray)

This is really wierd as i have plugged in a PCI network card, and it is working fine (i am using broadband DSL).. i just plug in the in the PCI network card and plug in the ethernet cable and it works staright away ...

i have tried to install the drivers from the MSI CD but still am unable to get this to work.

i cant really use this PCI network card anymore as it needs to be put back in another pc, and therefor i need to be able to use my two onboard network/ethernet ports ....

Please can anyone help me .. as i do not know what else i can do to get this to work...

many thanks

Check your bios..you should have MAC enabled. Has nothing to do with Macintosh.

And take a peak in Device Manager to see if there is a problem noted with the devices.

Thanks i have tried that and it still wont work.. is there anything that you can think of .. other then that it should work,

i understand MAC to be the hardware/physical address of the NIC, and i did enable this straight away to make sure that atleast the board would allow this to work...

when i then got into windows for the first time it would not allow me to connect to the internet ... at the bottem left of the the screen where it would tell you what URL it is trying to connect to, it would state that is detecting proxy settings

any ideas

many thanks

Take a look in Device Manager to see if the devices are properly recognized by windoze.

i have had a look in device manager and have updated all the drivers (including the unified 5.10 chipset drivers) etc etc so there is no question marks... and have also enabled Nvidia MAC and Giga LAN in the bios ... i am running bios rev 1.4 if that makes a difference ....

this really baffels me why it does not work because this is a really simple thing, install drivers enable it and it should work..

In the network connections the network symbols seem just fine, although when i plug in the ethernet to either one of the onboard network ports, i find that it doesnt send or receive any packets ... but when i plug it into the PCI NIC it does (obivously because on that i have an internet connection)

When you get the network icon in the systems tray at the bottom right of the screen and it shows an red X when the cable is not plugged in which is correct... but when i plug it into the onboard ethernet ports the red X goes away... and then it comes up with a warning triangle with a ! in the middle ... it gives me the option to repair but that does not do anything ...

also if i have a look at the back on the onboard ethernet ports i can see the green and the orange light working as normal, yet iy does not work

i am really at a loss now

maybe the ports are faulty... but i doubt that..
