Help, I can't get my duron to go above 1GHZ!

sounds like a bad problem don't it? anyway, just got it unlocked and running really well. It's a duron 600 week 36.

at 900mhz.. I can use default voltage 1.6 at 1 ghz I have to boost it up to 1.8 it will start to boot up at 1050 ghz and then ol' windows pops up and says. Windows protection error..... WHAT THE HECK! any one know how to kiss this error good bye?

oh ya.... temp is 30C @ 600 idle
35C @900 Idle

and 40 at 1ghz idle...

it's my dad's machine, well his christmas present.... but he just might have to get my ol' celly 2 system instead......

I think 1 ghz is more than most durons( at least most 600's) would go with air cooling.

My Duron 600 runs at 980 stable. Getting a 600 over 1ghz stable is rare.

I run at 1.85v
36C Idle
41C Under full load
Using a plain CoolerMaster HS/Fan

Getting Windows protection errors is a common way to tell that you overclocked processor just won't cut it at it's current speed. Can you tell the difference between 950 and 1000?

can't tell the difference between 950 and 1000. and To be totally truthful, probably couldn't tell the difference between 1000 and 1050. it's that Thought that counts and the fact that when it boots up it says... 1050mhz.........

I think 1ghz is your core's limit. I would just be happy with 1ghz.

40 C idle at 1GHz???? :Q:Q What kind of cooling do you have? My 600@800 runs at 43 C at idle. It usually runs as hot as 48 C under load. I have an Alpha PAL6035 + arctic silver on the CPU, 1 80mm intake fan, and 3 50mm exhaust fans. How did you get yours so cool?



EDIT: my case temp is usually 30 C.

its 40C, who knows what the full load temp is(probalby 45C). Either ways, its measured on a fishy mb, despite what a certain Anandtech reviewer claims.

well first off. the computer is located in the coldest freaking room of the apartment. and it's about 10 degree F outside.... so it's about 65 right now.. but I do have my little porta heater going strong behind me.... I got a cheap vantec socket A cooler with the heat gunk they give you... What is interesting... When I first put on the heatsink. and installed win 98se temp was running around 38C since then I have taken off the heat sink several times and this last time I took extra care in making sure the goop stuff was on exactly right. and that seems to have made a big difference... well plus the case is open on the side and there is another little fan right above the heat sink fan, sucking air out of the case..

Can't ya try booting at 950 and upping the fsb a bit? You might not make it to 1050, but you can still try and get close.

A 40C idle doesn't mean anything. What is your full load temp at 950?

Now i'm experimenting on specific cooling system Chorb-radiator-Peltier-CoolerMaster. It runs at 1.1GHz but my power supply can't stand this (75W Peltier)

Your problem may be the PSU you have i have a 230W Psun and mine will duron 700 will not go above 1Ghz at 1.825V.

You can try putting the volatge up to the maxium or try getting a more powerful PSU if you already have 300W psu or more then you may just have an unlucky chip

I would just like to point out that my duron ran at 43C at idle while at 850mhz. I could get 900mhz but it shot up to 47C real fast and never went below 44C. I bought a new case (fong kai 320) and now i am at 900mhz @ 1.85v with a temp that goes back and forth between 39-40C. When i am gaming it goes up to 43-44C. The new case made all the difference in the world for me!

okay after letting Quake 2, 3d marks run all night on it... The temp went up to 46. so I know this aint the best load test. but it will give me a better idea under a load...

and it might be the power supply, I never thought of that. it's a 250W AMD approved power supply.. um.. might have to see if there ia a 300W one I can scavenge from someone....
