Ok here is the rub.
1. The computer works just fine with the dial-up modem to connect to the internet. Actiontec/Lucent chip V.90 ISA
2. I install a network card (Linksys) and connect up through a home network and I don't use the modem and everything works fine.
3. The kid goes off to college and plugs in the computer to the San Francisco State network in the dorms and everything is fine.
4. The kid moves out of the dorms and trys to hook up to internet with the dial-up modem in her new apartment and nothing. So I use my laptop to check the connection and it works fine so know the logon and password is correct. I keep getting an error message that it can't find the network.
Now mind you I have physicaly removed the network card and removed it in the device manager. I removed the modem card and removed everything from the device manager to do with the network card and the modem card.
5. I reinstalled the modem card and made sure that everything in the dial up connections was correct and still "Cannot find the network connection".
6. I pull out the modem again and install a new modem card (PCI). Still nothing but now at least the modem will dial-up and connect to the service, but if you open up IE or Netscape I get the same message, "Cannot find the network".
7. In the connections tab in Internet connections the box is checked for "Connect to the Internet with a dial-up modem.
8. Everything I can find in the book is set correct.
Help please. I don't want to do a f/disk and have to reload everything if I can help it. I'm leaving work now I will check for your suggestions later.
Thanks in advance.
