ok long story short:

1) hooked up new router to cable modem, to nic in one pc, and lan on other pc

internet worked right away

2) for some dumb reason i decided to go through the directions and goto the router ip entered in IE and do the setup program wizard

now internet doesnt work for either pc....

im really new to this stuff, but i think i tried everything to get it working again.

the router tests the connection after its setup wizard and says its ok, but when i look at status, the DHCP is off?

What do i need to do to get it up and running again?

I would try very "carefully", to put the DHCP On.

If the DHCP is off, and you did not assigned manually IP numbers to the computers they become ?illegal aliens? (no ID).

ok it has to be something simple, if i disconnect the router and just hook the modem to either pc they both can go online. what do i need to do to get this to work?

ok i dont know what i did before to mess this up.... but i finally got the smart idea to goto thei website and look at the full instruction manual, they only supply a small 3 page quick install type with it. btw, this is the siemens router from the hot deals a week ago. anyway i reset the factory default settings, and now it works, do i dare do the setup wizard? ;)

Did you reset the router? I have a DSL/Cable router and have been locked out so to speak.

Take it one step at a time.

Think logically.

i tried pressing the reset button. but the 3 page quick start guide doesnt tell you how to reset it to factory config. complete 38 page manual lists the correct way, you have to power it off, hold the reset button in, power it on, and the light will blink red twice, then let off the reset button. i did that and it now works great, both pc's are online, and networked. i moved 20 gigs of stuff from the old pc to my new one :)
