Go into safe mode and remove the vid card, also purge the reg of all Nvidia drivers before you go into safe mode. After reebot from safe mode reinstall the drivers

Step 1: reinstall drivers/rollback drivers
Step 2: check control panel > system > device manager and make sure there are no warnings/conflicts
Step 3: pull out some more hair
Step 4: realize that it is totally fux0red
Step 5: pick up monitor in a fit of rage
Step 6: shotput it out the window
Step 7: beat the CPU with the keyboard
Step 8: repeat step 7
Step 9: try step 1 again
Step 10: install Linux

Re-install your video drivers and make sure XP knows what monitor you are using.

Is there any chance you are running MSN Explorer? It will take the first shutdown or logoff command itself and WinXP will stay up

Actually in Mandrake 9.1 it is as easy to setup video as it is in windows.
