Help, I can't change CMOS of my MB

Hi,
I have a Giga-byte GB-7IX MB and I encounter a CMOS checksum error when boot up. I did some search and the suggestion is go to setup and load default and save... I did that and reboot is the same message " cmos checksum error-default loaded". I tried to change only one setup in COMS and saved it. When I reboot the PC, the changes I made simply dissapeared. It seems the CMOS can't "remember" any change that I made. I tried a change to a new battery with no effect. Any idea what's going on with the MB?
Please help me...
Thanks
