THIS IS F*%^&#*@#* CRAZY.

A lot of people here recmomended the PIII 733and a Tyan S1854 Trinity 400 motherboard as a stable combination. Now I find out that this freaking mb does not support the cumines without a bios update to 1.07. Does that bloddy mean that I need another intel chip just to startup the mb and update the bios before I can put the p3 in there ?

This is so freaking silly. I do not have any spare celerons or p2's lying around !!! Any way around this mess ?

It should boot, it just may not recognise the CPU correctly...
It might say it's an Unknown Intel CPU, or a P2....
Shouldn't really be a big deal.

Yeah, it might regconize it as a slower cpu or whatever, but it should boot. As long as you are able to boot, you ca flash the bios.

Where did you get that from?

This is from Tyan's BIOS info page for the Trinity 400 1.07 BIOS:

<< Added new flipchip Celeron, 850 or higher speed PIII support. Added USB KB/Mouse legacy suppport. Open optional on board sound support. >>

That's only for BIOS support, i.e. correct speed reading. Doesn't affect booting and regardless, the 1.07 BIOS CPU info update is for the FC-PGA Celerons and the P3-850 and up. I've booted and run a Celeron 533A on a Trinity 400 with the 1.0 BIOS. Didn't recognize it as a Celeron, but worked anyway. Only problem with the Trinity 400 and Coppermines was with early board revisions that should definitely be out of the channel by now.
