HELP! How to boot from a SATA hd without raid

Ok, I need help here. I was raiding 2 36 gig WD hd's in a stripe raid. I made an image of that complete C: drive and now I'm trying to restore that image.

PROBLEM: Norton Ghost 9 will not work with the nvidia raid for some reason. I have a MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum motherboard and each time I boot from the Ghost cd and install the drivers...I always get a black screen just a little past that screen saying cannot find nvraid.sys file.

After that only option is to reboot.

So, I give up...have can I get my SATA raptors (or even just one of them) to be seen on boot up by Ghost...since Ghost will not work with the raid?

Many thanks!

I've never had any luck with older versions of Ghost. I have not tried v9.

Acronis works for me. And yes, I have restored an image to a RAID array.

Assuming you are restoring to an array, Acronis will also prompt you for drivers. You'll need them on a floppy.

However, are you certain you have the correct drivers? Have you unzipped the file? You should have just individual files on your driver disk.

Although not specifically mentioning your version of Ghost, you may want to read this.

Check out this link.

I'm having a problem with Drive Image 7.0 and after hours of searching I found this thread. It might help with the problem you're having.

I'm in the middle of trying the Drive Image fix.

LMK how you make out.

Yep, 100% certain I have the correct drivers. Even tried the dish that came with the board.

Yes, True Image may work...but that's not going to help me with my Ghost Image. I really hate Norton Ghost...it sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes...restoring to an array. I've even moved my raptors over to my Silicon Image on board raid controller...it does install the drivers and boot into Ghost, but my arrayed drive isn't showing up in Ghost.

And also...is it possible to boot from say one SATA hd and not have it in a raid array?

This didn't work for me. 🙁 Drive Image won't recognize my array.

I'm trying this software. So far I created an image of my RAID 0 and now in the process of restoring it. So far so good. I used the DOS version.

Dead3ye,

Just curious...are you trying to restore an image you made using Drive Image 7.0. If so, how is this Terabyte program helping you? Will Terabyte restore Drive Image Images?

I tried booting into Ghost using my second onboard raid controller. I can install the drivers and get to the Ghost console, but Ghost doesn't display my arrayed drive 🙁

At the moment...I finally gave up and went back with a fresh install of Windows XP Pro.

I made the image of my SATA RAID0 with DI in Windows. I replace the two 30GB HDs with two 80GB ones. DI refused to load the NVraid drivers, no matter what tried. I even tried all the stuff on the link I gave above, and I actually got the PQRE console to load, but it then saw my drives as separate similar to what it sounds you're saying.

I still had my 30's so I reconnected them and used the software from Terabyte (Image for DOS). It worked like a charm and even saved the image to 5 DVD-RWs. Only problem I had was when I restored to the 160GB RAID0 (which went without a hitch), it just put the 60GB partition on it with no option of resizing it. So I had a 60GB Par. and a 100 par. Not what I wanted.

I ended up getting pissed at the whole ordeal and ended up reinstalling XP. I was able to load Drive Image into XP and actually browse my image that I had made earlier and retrieve the files that I wanted. I'll prolly keep that image till I think I don't need it anymore.
