help! how do i remove the silver flip off my CPU to detach the heat sink???

I just got AS2 and want to apply it.. but having trouble removing the clip! how do i remove it?? Do i use two flathead screwdrivers and push down or what's the most effective way to take that clip off??!

on the side of the clip that has the notch sticking up, put a screwdriver in the notch. then, push down relatively hard on the screwdriver, while at the same time pushing out. it should unhook eventually, just keep an eye on it.

Whoaaa!!! Hold your horse before you insert that screwdriver. Make sure you put some protective layer between the board and the clip in case the screwdriver slips. And believe me it'll slip! Masking tape or a piece of card board will suffice. If you don't you run the chance of losing your entire board.

yeah.... what jiggz said... i meant that too but it was in there between the lines

note: when removing the old thermal paste, use a damp cloth wth a non-abrasive cleaner. (theres more detailed posts about it in this forum... but theres not a huge possibility youll screw something up - but do a search for posts about this anyways)

Make sure the cleaner is alcohol-based. Actually, rubbing alcohol will do the job pretty well.
