Help- How do I know which VIA 4in1 Driver I currently have?

Hope someone can answer this one. I have consistently read that you should have the latest 4 in 1 drivers, but I don't know how to determine my driver version. I went to My Computer, properties, and device manager, and system devices, and double clicked on VIA Tech VT82C686 PCI to ISA bridge, and then driver file details, and it showed MicroSoft 4.10.1998. This does not sound like the VIA driver. Everything on my machine seems to be working fine. My MadOnion 2001 scores are 4750, and games sound fine (I use SB Live, but loaded only the basic drivers). Are there any downsides to installing newer drivers? Currently VIA lists 4.32 as the most up to date drivers for my southbridge in the A7M266, but I note that Anand often shows 4.29 being used for tests setups. Thanks in advance.

From 4in1 FAQ at www.viatech.com:

Presently there is no method of determining what version 4-in-1 driver is installed in your system. VIA is currently developing a 4-in1 driver identification tool that will be made available on our website from April.

Of course, they don't say which April.🙂

My advice would be the next time you upgrade your 4-in-1's, don't delete the folder that you unzipped them too. I unzip mine to my root directory, then it creates a folder named with what version they are. Keep it there and you'll always know. Sorry I couldn't help you determine what you currently have. When did you last update them? I did a new system about 4 months ago and mine were old.

THANKS for the replies. I had my system built about four months ago, and I was given a driver disk with 4.24 drivers on it, but the tech at the vendor's company can't say for sure if the drivers were loaded, although the "thinks" they were. He suggested looking for the date of the 4-in-1 driver files in Windows/System, but didn't know the name of the files. Seems odd they are not identified like normal drivers... Assuming I got the 4.24 drivers, would you suggest there is any value in going to the 4.28 or 4.32 newer drivers? Thanks again.

If everything on your system is running fine, then you should be okay. However, it's always best to use the latest drivers. They work out a lot of the bugs associated with AGP video cards, etc. But again, if you're not having problems, don't sweat it. "If it ain't broke, don't break it."
