HELP! How do I know if I fried something?

Hey everybody...I'm not a moron, I swear, I was just asleep.

I just installed the TDK 24x10x40 VeloCD (THANK YOU LITE-ON!!!!), and before going to sleep I put the case back on...this morning, the drive didn't work, and I found I had accidentally unplugged it from the PSU when I put the case on...

Mind you, I just woke up to go to work.

So I plug it back in....and my entire system shuts down...In fact, I couldn't get it to turn back on until I turned the PSU off and unplugged it. Everything seems to be working fine. Should I consider myself in the clear? Is there anything that I could have damaged that wouldn't be apparent?

I have a 350W Enermax Whisper. Is this just a security feature in the PSU that shuts the computer down when there is an overlaod?

Thanks,

I remember doing this to a hard drive and it killed the hard drive. So I am not sure how safe it was to do it to a CD Burner. The good thing is you just bought it so you can return it as doa. Only thing to do is test the CD Burner out and see if it works. Everything else should be okay. It was for me anyways.

Actually, I turned the machine on after I fixed it up and burned a CD at 24 speed, so I guess I'm alright? I just wonder...is it "all or nothing"? Could I have "sort-of" screwed up my burner?
