I got the door panel off easily..but I can't figure out how to unscrew the speakers...any ideas? 1998 Corolla CE..

My car is in peices in the driveway, and I have to leave in an hour...I wanted to get these in by then.

Thanks for any tips you can give..

this doesn't help you now, but a Haynes or Chilton's manual will help you in the longrun and for $10-15, you can't go wrong.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting one..

It looks like the speaker is screwed in from the other side - I really don't want to pay someone to install these... :)

Well, I was just told they're riveted in...that answers my question - drill..no unscrewing. Ah well..I shouldn't have expected it to be this easy :p

also, if you are going to swap the speakers, pick up some extra retainer clips for the door panel at the toyota dealer. You'll probably break some while taking the door panel off and if you don't replace them, you'll get buzzes and rattles. Get like 4 or so, they're about a dollar a piece.

6.5s will fit in the front, but the stocks are 5.25.

Really? Huh, freakish. Technically, my car is a 2000 prizm but same difference.

Yeah I thought it was wierd when I saw the stock front speakers weren't total pieces of sh*t, they actually have separate tweeters and stuff.

What's up 'Square. Did an amp install in my friend's 97 or 98 Corolla yesterday. Ripped apart the whole dash only to realize I didn't have to. Then I put it all back together and realized I forgot to run the amp turn on lead. Rip it apart again!:|:|. Eh well, total time spent was 2.5 hours. Not too shabby.

hey wassup. Dannylove wants to do lunch sometime, but he can't do tomorrow. I'm actually on campus right now.

theres a generation difference between the 97s and 98s. The 98-02s look like what I drive.

you could have called me and asked about the install. :p Me and a friend at berkeley both drive 98+ corollas and we both do our own installs. He recently put in an infinity perfect sub.

I got the door panel off, then put it back on...my 6.5 JBLs come in tomorrow, and I don't want to drive around with half a door. Didn't break anything..yet :)
Thanks for the tip, though.

The panel was easy..I just have to figure out how far to drill the rivets, so I don't hit anything behind them..also, any ideas on how to prevent rivet pieces from falling inside the door, or do they typically stay in one piece?

Where can I find a Haynes manual for cheap? The cheapest I found was $40.32...nobody seems to have them for the '98-'00 Corollas. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place(s)...?
