More information would help. At the very least what monitor do you have?

Keep in mind that older games will not support higher resolutions especially wide screen resolutions. So if you have a wide sreen then it will give you black bars on the sides rather then streaching the image.

The L226WT itself does not have options for this. You should check your video card settings for display configuration. Any NVIDIA should have options for setting it to 1:1 or aspect ratio scaling.

The problem you are experiencing is likely because of broken drivers, especially in the case of nVidia.

Still haven't fixed that eh? :p

Well, mine has been broken forever on my VX2025wm (which is Viewsonics fault I think).

@mushroomx
The Nvidia drivers allow you to do it through the driver. Look for something that has to do with the scaling.
Unless of course they haven't fixed the flat panel scaling issues (which I can't even remember when that started, it's been so long).

If scaling doesn't work through the driver:
Have you tried some of the new(er) non-official drivers.
You can find some here.

Try the (XTreme-G) 160.02 if you haven't already. Flat panel scaling might be broken in these too, but at least you'll have better IQ/Performance :)

...and this is why I will never give up hardware 1:1 pixel scaling.

Your only option is to use flat panel scaling in the Nvidia drivers, but it has been broken for some time. I thought I remember it being fixed in some of the recent forceware versions. They may not be WHQL, but hey, if it's broken then fix it right?

The Widescreen Gaming Forum is a really good place to find out how to make a game run on widescreen, whether is supports it or not. You will most likely be able to find out how to get those black bars up there...

Even if you find a .cfg hack to force widescreen, in most older games it's not going to give you "true" widescreen. All it is going to do is horizontally stretch the picture.

Are you running on Vista? If so, being an "older" game, could it be a 16 bit game? Vista doesnt support anything 16 bit.

Just throwin that out there

How old are these old games? If they run in 640x480 or something like that, you can sometimes connect the monitor over VGA. Many LCDs have size/position controls on a VGA input that can be used to compress the image back to the right aspect ratio, and at such low resolutions it won't matter whether you're using VGA or DVI.
