Is there another way to clear the CMOS on this board to get it to go to defaults?

Shorting out CLRTC by the battery is not doing it.

I changed 2 settings in CMOS (I was trying to get all my fans to show up in the ASUS cooling utlity). One of the changes was to stop if fan is not rusnning. not it won't boot...beeps and then stops..

No help on ASUS site or in mobo manual ....this is so stupid!

help.

Yeah that mobo (and several ASUSes) are a pain to clear CMOS for; I built a couple for some friends. You can download the manual as a .pdf file from ASUS' website, but I'll explain how to do it. On the top left I believe of the motherboard, there is a jumper (with no pins) called CMOS or Clear CMOS or something, what you have to do is short the two pins using something metal (like a paper clip). Hold a paper clip there (while properly grounded), turn on the power; it should turn on then reboot right away (you've cleared CMOS). You have to know where the cmos "jumper" is, however and you might need the manual if you can't find it or are unsure.

The other method is to simply take out the battery from the motherboard when it's off, then turn the machine on (it will boot but won't be able to save any settings since there's no battery). After it gets past the startup screen or whatever turn the machine back off, pop back in the battery and you will be able to boot fine again, with a clear CMOS (and all of your settings lost).

I got the mobo for one year and I cant undestand how Asus is so cheap no to set up a Jumper there, I removed the battery and will do it.

I found that even after clearing cmos on the a7v133, the option for shutting down when no cpu fan is detected is defaulted to ON, when it's supposed to default OFF. Try plugging an rpm monitoring fan into the cpu fan header and starting it...otherwise I just unplug, remove battery, short out the clr cmos as best I can and hit the power button a few times...

I have tried all those things to clear CMOS. Frigging computer beeps once then quits.

One thing I tried.... shorting out the cmos solder points (since stupid ASUS has no jumper) with multi-meter leads, meter set on Ohms. I should get a resistance reading when I short (complete the circuit) them. needles don;t move, I get no reading.

I think I'm gonna get an MSI KT3 ultra........

This is matt,

got me going in the right direction. I switched the CPU fan lead with the F fan leads(small fan) and it booted up! Guess they were crossed all the time.

Now I get a power fan reading (which is what I wanted) but no chassis fan. This kind of stuff should be on ASUS's website.

It's not so hard, but it is a real pain for asus not to include simple jumper pins for CLRTC. Just remove the coin battery FIRST and then short the two solder points (small flathead is perfect) for a few seconds. Put the coin battery back in and boot up. That's what I did a while back and had no problems.

It should have been that easy to do but it was not. I tried different screwdrivers, tweezers, unbent paper clips, scraping away solder..nothing worked . Finally a workaround did it.
