I installed Windows 2000 professional first with fat 32 then converted to NTFS througth command prompt. throught this conversion will I get the same performance as if I installed it with NTFS from teh beginning?

Also,By directtory is abnormally big. The Entire Winnt directory is 780 megs and the system32 directory is 480mb. The ServicePakfiles directory is 130mb, Driver Cache is 50mb with i386 file inside that only has zip files. Is the size win2000 normal.

can a person that knows win 2000 answwer my questions, thank you

is that normal to be that big. Also do the service patches make backups if so is there a way to find and delete the back up. And what about performance when i converted from fat 32 to ntfs after the first installation, willi get the same performatnce as if installing from scratch.

I have a one week old install of Win 2K w/ only one main program, Office 2K, that would bloat the WinNT directory a bit.

WinNT folder = 798MB
system32 = 503MB

Yes, your install is "typical". As long as disk management shows NTFS you are fine.

My winnt directory is 1.14 GBs and system32 is 632 MBs, so I don't think you have anything to worry about ;)

Well, everytime you make changes and tell windows to back files up beforehand or whatever, of course your hard drive is going to bust at the seems. ;)

You should always set aside 1.5 gigs for Windows2000

The Win2000 box states "minimum" requirements as 2 gig hard drive with 650 free space (minimum)

There really isn't much bloatware on Win2K it just has alot more system files then 9X. Win2K is a hell of alot less bloated then say WinME but it still takes more space then ME.

And your performance will be the same if you format or convert to NTFS.
