Help hooking up Subwoofer (noob question)

I have a Denon AVR-590 and Energy Take 5.1 home speaker system. My question pertains to how I physically hook up the sub...

On the back of the receiver, there's one preout for the sub (looks like a black RCA jack). On the back of the sub, there is one red and one white connection (says left/right and next to it, it also says Line in/Sub in)... My question is, where do I connect the sub? Do I need a special cable that splits the preout RCA into two? Or do I simply connect the preout to 'Sub In"? Or Line in?

I don't want to destroy anything which is why I haven't experimented.

Thanks in advance!

You can go from the black pre-out on the receiver to the white (left) input on the sub with a regular RCA cable.

If you have a yellow composite video cable, that will work fine.
