help! home network, 2 computers sharing cable modem

I have 2 computers that I want to share a cable modem with. I don't want to have one as a server. I've have a Linksys startup kit w/a hub which I can't make work. Both computers are running Win98se. I've check'd w/practically networked, just more confused. Is the easiest way with a cable/switch like the Netgear 314? Go from cable modem to switch to each card in both computers? Thanks for any help!

if you want simple, just try to get that hub to work. run the cable modem into the uplink port on the hub (or if there's no uplink port, you run it to any open port with a crossover cable) and then plug both machines into the other available ports....

with the config, though, you have to register an addition IP from your cable modem provider and then you can keep it simple by just using DHCP (an extra IP usually runs about 5 bucks extra a month)

doesn't get much simpler...if you decide to go with the switch, same stuff still applies.
