HELP HELP

I just purchased a Lite On CDRW (LTR-24102B02) from Newegg and its not working. The tray closes and opens and even when I put a CD in it still does the same thing. I'm using Win 98SE and it seemed to add the drive (automatically installed from windows) with no problem, but after that its been a hassle. Is this a driver problem or a hardware defect/issue?

Thankie

Is the drive master? Slave?

Is the drive showing up in the POST? (when the computer boots up do you see the drive listed?)

I have a Creative labs cdrom running as the master and the CDRW as the slave. Both on IDE 2. The odd thing is is that they don't seem to be detected in the bootup. Ive always had this issue, but it didnt seem to be a problem until I installed the CDRW. The odd thing is that if u go into the bios in my MB Abit Be6II it doesnt detect anything, including my harddrive. From what I remember it has something to do with my hardrive-but it never hindered the functioning of my computer b4 this.

It (CDRW) continues to open and close as the computer boots up to windows

You might need to go into your bios and see if you have it set right.

I am not familiar with your mother board. 🙁

Sorry I can not remember exactly, but go in (your bios) where your hard drive is listed make sure you have secondary (master) set to auto and secondary (slave) set to auto. Wish I could remember better, but it is really late here. In some bioses it is the first option right at the top left. (Award Bios usually)

Wish I could help more.

You could make the CD-RW drive as Master and the CD-ROM as Slave some drives are picky. I would also contact LiteOn and ask to RMA the drive, it sound like it is DOA (Dead on Arrival). If you really feel daring you could try to update the Firmware on the drive, but if something goes wrong like your computer locks up or the drive stops responding, your drive will be no more than a paperweight and could void your warranty. So recommend that you RMA the drive, or see if LiteOn knows how to fix it.
