How about calling seagate and demanding that they fed ex you a replacement? I'd shut down the offending PC until you get the replacement to assure you have a chance of getting the data off. You obviously want to avoid stops and starts.

If the content is truly valuable to you you might want to buy a backup archival drive. If it's transient DVR stuff, then watch your favorite shows fast.
