And I am ANNOYED.
See, it goes like this : 80% of the times I play games like return to castle wolfenstein or wizardry 8 or Alice or , well, any 3d game, computer locks up after a random while. Sometime I can play without fault for hours, sometimes it takes 15 minutes before I get graphic glitches, 2 second lockups following eachother , and then , (after perhaps half a min) , screen hangs and sound goes into a neverending loop, and then, just after, screen goes black. The hanging part can be delayed for like half a min if I make less things go on on screen (stare into a wall; i.e show few polys and stuff).
Usually after this has happened, it tends to happen more often until I shut down the computer for the night (or whenever it's off for a few hours). And usually after it locks up in a game, and I restart the comp, I get screen glitches and a hanged computer after just a minute or two, even if I ain't doing anything worhtwhile.
That is symptom numero 1.
Symptom numero 2 manifests itself sometimes when I try to launch an application (ANY application, even open My Computer) ; system locks up for half a minute(and main hd tries to chew its own tail off; meaning it works-works-woorks), then it responds to input for 3 seconds, whereafter it hangs for 30 seconds, responds to input for 2 secs, and then it hangs final. Or something like it.
And it seems random..sometomes it happens, sometimes it doesn't, but once it's started, it continues to happen pretty often 'till i shut it down for some hours.

When it dosplayed symptom nr.1 for an extended amount of time, I tried switching vid drivers, no difference. New Soundcard-drivers, no difference. There are no hardware conflicts. I changed some things in BIOS; no difference. I set my CPU to normal FSB speed, no difference. (ANd CPU-hangs due to heat are different, mostly.)
So I unplugged my sound-card. No issues for for a while (perhaps 5 hours). I tried putting the soundcard back in and unplugging the networks-card. No issues, and everything worked for as long as I tried it.
But..the next day, problems are back. And I who had thought it had somehting to do with the powersupply not supplying enough power! I run XP , and sometimes when it has crashed in a game and restarts , it shows a dialog where it says ' Display device could not finish drawing humhumm(somehting)'
I only tried overclocking the dang thing once(vid card), but found out Kyro's don't oc well, so I have it at normal speed now. (And I never had these kinds of issues when I ran it too fast)
Oh, and sometimes when comp hangs and screen goes black the hd powers down. Don't ask me why.

Anyone have any clues about what malady my FREAkin' comp is sufferin' ? ANY help is surely appreciated.
C'iao

EDIT: before anyone asks, here are my important specs :
P-3800@~896(ystech fan, alu taisol)
256 SDARM cas3
ABIt BH6 rev1.02 (newest bios)
SB LIVe (newsest drivers)
XP pro (not updated)
Proview 765 mon (mentioned because according to windows(only show refreshrates monitor can handle) it can't handle 85 Hz, but it does)
Herc Kyro2 (tried a gazillion different drivers, currently underclocked)

Yesterday.
Dang Morpheus and Direct Connect downloaded files really go into fragments..

I would have replied sooner in this thread, but as I was opening it I ran dxdiag and hit the 'test direct3d' button.
Blue screen, blamed on pmx2hal.dll, which coincidently is a part of my Kyro2's drivers; and then my hd shut down.
Huzzah..:(

Hmm, perhaps I can get more answers if I simplify my problem :
Anywhere from 10 to 140 minutes in a 3dgame, my computer experiences a fatal error (blue screen) , and whatever sound was playing continues in an endless loop.
File blamed in bluescreen is pmx2hal.dll ; one of my Kyro2 driverfiles.

Well...how would you propose to do that?
I've tried to feel any alarming heat from cpu and my Kyro2 with my fingers, but it's kind of hard with heatsinks in the way. Those don't seem too hot , though.
And retail heatsink + fan for hercules kyro's is supposed to be pretty good. Or at least good enough for a slightly underclocked kyro :p

Funny thing is really that I get bluescreen immedietaly when I hit 'Test Direct3D' in dxdiag..blaming on above mentioned dll-file.
Nyone ?:)

It sounds like a driver issue between the Kyro and XP but I did see something which may have some relevance to your issueHere The part where it says

<< Can I use a Geforce card in my BH6?

I'm running an Asus v6800 Pure (DDR) fine in my system, and others are running various Geforce cards too. Although, some people do seem to have problems with their boards not supplying enough voltage to the video card.

If your Kyro is power hungry maybe that is part of the issue?

Ugh. That might be it...that it takes a while in a 3Dgame for it to corrupt and hangs perhaps points to it..however, is the D3D-test in dxdiag extra power hungry ? :/ Perhaps I have 2 issues with this..
Well, I updated my problem in the video-section, saying after various problems that I let windows auto-install old hercules-drivers. Now it seems to do the d3d-test without fault. Wouldn't bet it's the same with the games, tho.
