HELP HELP HELP CPU Hitting 60deg C

Hi

guys I need help bad, my CPU is hitting 60deg C at stock speed
its an AMD 1.33 Athlon, I just changed my mobo and it hangs and after reboot mobo says check out hardware monitor which shows 60C temp for the CPU
now it didnt use to do this on the old mobo (ECS K7S5A) now why does it do it on the new one ? (Asus A7A266) Ive heard of a bug asus had with cpu temps being incorrect, could it be that ??

MAke sure that your heatsink and fan are installed correctly.

Take it off, reapply thermal grease, and make sur eyour fan is pointed in the right direction

I installed it like half an hour ago, everything was aok (done this minimum 50 times before so Im sure thats not the prob)

Well the old athlons at high clock speeds like that, produced a truckload of heat! 60 degrees wont kill it, but what kind of hsf are you using?

That doesn't make a difference. Take the HSF off, clean everything up, and try again.

well the mobo considers it too much and it switches off so Im a bit worried
its an XP HSF so it should be better right ?

was just really tired in the morning, I was up all night working 🙁
 
ok redid the cpu install + changed the PS for a better one I had ready for a different machine of mine, still hot as hell 🙁

Im lost and this sux because my other machine is still in progress and now Im writing this from a small lil old laptop I borrowed from work 🙁

can anyone suggest something ? Im really desperate, dont want to loose the cpu but I really dont understand what could be wrong

The AMD CPU chart specifies a max of 70C for this CPU, however the max on the XP is higher
Im a bit confused, plus 60 is a bit close to 70, should I run it like this ? or can I at least run it til I get a monster cooler ?


EDIT: was looking at the wrong CPU, for this one the temps are 90-95C OMG !!! this is maddness 🙂

It may be time to get that SLK-900A for $20 from SVC. That monster-sized heatsink is up to cooling the big bad Tbirds 🙂

If you're talking about some autoshutdown due to high temps, well some boards let you choose different warning and shutdown temps for the processor. If it's instability based reboot, it's really time to use a new heatsink if it won't stay cool no matter how you apply the current HSF.

yes its the mobo who shuts it down due to high temps, the system was fine with the old mobo (which didnt have the safe shutdown option)

by the way my power rails show 3.3V as 3.1 and 5 as 4,9 and 12 as 12.7, the 3.3 looks kinda low, is it really bad or I can live with it ?

raise the cut-off temp in the bios and monitor the temps to see if they continue to rise. 60 is within spec, but should be cooler at idle or general work. If it's 60 at load then thats OK.

How about case fans? do you have any? I run one in front and back on all my t-birds at work.

A user at work's cpu fan died and her 1.4 t-bird hit 185F (85c) replaced the fan and the chip still works great (K7S5A also).

I dont see a setting to raise the cut off, all I have is "ingnore" and when I switch to ignore it still hangs me 🙁
I really dont get it now


by the way the mobo temp shows 40C

nope no fans yet, but its an open case at all times

ok this I generally dont get, i just switched the "halt on all errors" to generally "dont halt at all" and it still halts on me, what could this be ??

My 1.2GHz TBird @ 1.4GHz is running @50C (44C w/ side panel open, due to insufficient air intake)
HSF is PAL8045:
w/ 80mm 1.7A Fan: 50C
w/ 80mm 1.4A Fan: 55C

yes yes, done that 80% of the time and it will boot back up very nicely and only hang when windows is starting, Im thinking maybe windows crapped out due to the mobo switch (however I never had w98 crap out on a mobo switch before and Ive done it at least a douzen times) so Im reinstalling win to see what gives, I will post results

it was the OS, odd, Ive never seen an OS act this way after a mobo swap, ok I understand straight hanging, but this was a type of mobo hang, it would turn it off, thats not usuall for OS hanging

well I reinstalled the OS and now its not only running but its running very nicely at 1.4Ghz and same temps, using bios and asus probe for monitoring
I will even try higher later on 🙂
