Help: Having trouble reading DVDs after I burn them

Just picked up a Lite-On SOHW 1633s drive, and I am trying to back up some data as well as create back-ups for some of my DVDs.

I am using the bundled Nero to burn the data discs, and am using DVDShrink to burn the DVD movies.

Using DVD Identifier, I read my blank discs as:

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]

Whenever I try to read the DVD with my burner after a successful burn (whether with Nero or DVDShrink), it will just spin the disc for a while and then end up telling me there is no disc.

I have no other computer DVD drives in the house, so I have no way of testing my data discs, but I have a PS2 and home DVD player in which the movies I copy will play, so I know the burning is working.

Any ideas as to why they won't even read in the burner drive?

Thanks for the help

I dunno, I had the same problem and was told to try Nero, ended up buying a whole new DVD+/-RW. So not sure on the results yet.

Hmm... thing is, I did use nero, it came bundled with the drive. Still couldn't read the discs afterwards.

What discs? I also noticed that when I used Memorex, it worked but when using Philips, it did not.

All I know is they are:

They aren't branded per say. That could be the problem, though I don't see how Liteons wouldn't work with one of the best manufacturer's discs...

After you DVD Shrink the movie, burn it with DVD-Video mode in Nero. Put the all the shrinked files in the Video_TS folder.

It may be the discs, as I've had similar problems. Sometimes it will read the disc other times it won't, all of the same brand.
Another possibility is firmware. be sure yours is up to date( just 'cause it's fresh out of the box doesn't mean it's current ) as this can present problems with discs that are rated for different speeds.
