Help! Having major issues!

Alright, I'm at college right now, and having huge issues with my laptop networking. It seems to work on the internet most of the time, but I just rebooted, and I can't for the life of me get my LAN to work! I'm using my wireless network, but if i disable that, my internet connections DOL. I could use some help here, any info u need, just ask it. I'm so confused! 😕

Change your DHCP-issued address range ... Try 192.168.25.0 (or your room number or floor number in the third octet)...also make sure your SSID is NOT the default, and make sure your WEP keys are set.

If your wireless is using out-of-the-box settings, chances are someone else is using them too and ya'll are using the same addresses, or SSID, or both. Setting the WEP should keep folks from poaching your bandwidth. If you know how or are interested in learning, try setting MAC address filtering too (so that your AP only accepts connections from your machine(s)).

I'm not sure that's your problem, but it seems plausable and very possible.

Good Luck

Scott

So having the DHCP automatically detect an IP is not a good thing? I'll check these settings in a bit when i get back to my dorm, i enjoy having high speed computers all over campus 🙂

i dont think you want to try to change to static ips. that might lead to more trouble. using the schools dhcp settings is the best way to go.

sounds like youi might want to call the help desk and they can straighten you out, since it is their network ,they might know which settings are wrong.
