Ok, I've been dealing with this problem for some time and I've finally drawn the last straw. About 2-3 times a day my computer hard locks, and is generally related to video. Whether i'm playing a game, watching a DivX, mpeg, sometimes just using microsoft word and listening to mp3's.

Here's my setup: (everything is in spec, nothing overclocked)

Windows XP Professional (Also tried Win2k ... which didn't help)
Inwin Q500 (w/ a Powerman 300w P/S)
Athlon XP 1700+ (w/ Volcano 6cu+)
Abit KG7 (Regular)
256MB Crucial 2100 DDR
Visiontek Geforce 2 GTS 32MB
Western Digital 120GB 7200rpm 8mb
Western Digital 20gb 7200rpm
IBM 22gb 7200rpm
Adaptec 2940U/UW SCSI Card
Plextor 32x SCSI Cdrom
Plextor 12/10/32 SCSI CD-r
Netgear Fa310x 10/100 NIC
Aureal Vortex2 SuperQuad 2500 PCI

Now i'm not sure if this is too much stuff for a 300watt P/S .... how would i determine this?? I'm also pretty sure my CPU / case temperature is fine as I have a huge box fan blowing into the case in a climate controlled room. The cpu temp is like 41C idle / 46C full load, which I think is acceptable.

I'm quite expierenced building machines, and have made sure I loaded the drivers correctly from the ground up. (WinXP, Via 4in1's, Video, Sound, USB, everything else ....) Does this have anything to do with the VIA / AMD combination? I was always under the impressoin the KG7 was a good board ...

Anyone have any suggestions? Any and all advice is welcome!!! Please help!!

That's the usual suspect alright, you are running a lot of stuff for that PSU. To determine if that is indeed the culprit start unplugging extra HDD's and then if needed any other drive, ect you can do without temporarily then run the apps that were causing the lock-ups again. If none of that results in stability try searching to see if there are known issues between your SCSI adapter and VIA chipsets, look for patches, ect. BTW did you install SP1 for XP already?that could potentially (though doubtfully) contain a fix. Good luck and let us know how you're getting on :)

Sounds like the video card or video drivers. Is it any specific program(s) you run where you get the hard lock ups? Can you update the video drivers?
