HELP! Half Life video problem with new Gforce GTS

Hi,
I installed the new Creative Gforce GTS card following this procedure:
1. Changed driver to standard VGA.
2. Removed all 3dfx software.
3. Shut down pc.
4. Installed Gforce card and installed drivers from NVIDA's site.
5. Rebooted and reset desktop.

In Half Life, I selected OpenGL as the mode, and DEFAULT as the driver. When the game starts, it leaves my current resolution of 1024x768 in a small window with white lines going through it. The background is fine, and I can bring down the cosole to quit the game and go back. I don't know why this box remains on the screen.

In Quake 3, it started just fine, but when I selected DRIVER INFO, the pc froze and required a hard reset. Why?

I did a search for opengl32.dll, and I only have one in the windows\system folder. I tried and copied this file into the half life\gldrv folder, but that did not work either.

Anyone have any ideas?

most likely it is a driver issue, i had similar problem with my old TNT card. i would get 640x480 box that is console size in game screen and would dissappear after i goto console and comeback. try older drivers if possible and try to remove all 3dfx files and stuff before u install the drivers.

i think i fixed the problems with one of newer drivers at the time.

Thanks for the reply. I have the latest drivers from NVIDA. All other games including Quake3 work fine. I know this is a HL problem because if I select SOFTWARE as the driver, enter a game, quit to the main menu, select OpenGL again, and start a new game, the box is gone when I start a game. Direct3d works, it has the same box, but it's only visable for 5 seconds while the game is initializing. I rather not use direct3d as the driver because it's slower than OpenGL.
