Help! GTA3 won't launch anymore after Radeon 9000 (now 8500le) is installed

Grand Theft Auto 3 will no longer launch after I upgraded from a Geforce2 MX 32mb to a Radeon 9000 128mb. It doesn't even access the CD-ROM anymore. After a few minutes, it disappears from Applications Running box in Win98. I have tried reinstalling and using the patch, but it doesn't work.
 
Did you correctly remove all traces of your GF2 MX before you installed your Radeon?
Do you have the latest BIOS, chipset drivers and Radeon drivers for your system?
 
Actually, I no longer have the Radeon 9000 anymore. I returned it for a Radeon 8500le. But the problem continues. The problem is only with GTA3 so far. Neverwinter Nights works. With the Catalyst 2.1 drivers, GTA3 launches, but has the well documented fog problem. With Catalyst 2.3 drivers, the game does not launch at all. I did not remove all traces of the Geforce2mx, because I don't know how to, beyond removing with the Add/Remove Control Panels. I did reinstall DirectX. Any further ideas?
 
it's a simple gta3 settings problem..go to your documents(usually c:\my documents\) and then go to the folder "GTA3 User Files" and there should be a file called GTA3SET or something similar, just delete it and re-run gta3
