I thought about just getting a keyboard for my Tungten E, however I don't know how well that would work out. It still is a possibility seeing as I have MS Word and Excel on it.

I went over to Dells website and built one for $998 shipped with a 2.8 P4, Radeon 7500 video, 384 MB 266MHZ ram, and a DVD/CDRW combo drive. Doesn't seem to bad. However want to ask around before I hit the checkout button. Anyone have any suggestions?

what are you going to use it for?

do you want it light? as a desktop replacement? (probably not since you were considering using your Palm)

if it's just a business PC get a cheap dell/HP...

Well, since I'm paying for it, I kinda want it for all-around use. It won't be a gaming machine. But I do want to be able to watch movies on it, hook my digital camera up to it and work with photos/video. That Dell I looked at seems to be prolly the best one I can get right now. I'll keep looking around though...

seems like the dell you have picked out is completely resonable then...

if you're gonna go into video editing you'll want more power...

otherwise, any laptop w/ a DVD is good for watching movies (unless you want a widescreen, meaning mucho dinero)
and any computer made in the last year should do fine w/ photos

Well I have decided NOT to get one. It would've been an impulse buy and I would've regretted it later. I only need something to take notes with while I'm in France, and my Palm can do that just fine with Word. I just ordered the keyboard for my Tungsten E. Hopefully, it will work great and I won't be tempted to get a laptop. I guess I had a case of new hardware-itus. That was a close one, whew!! As far as the DVD and stuff goes, I have my main comp, and a DVD player in the living room so I'm good there. Don't know what I was thinkin...."

Thanks anyway for your replies...

The tungsten will do great for note taking. I've taken many a pages of notes on my pocket pc. A laptop you'd have to lug around, the Tungsten, well it fits in your pocket 🙂

I wouldn't recommend purchasing a Dell laptop. I understand now that you have decided not to purchase one anyways, but I would definitely support purchasing an IBM over a Dell in terms of laptops.

HP has several Celeron models that offer sub-$800 pricing. Once in awhile you can get a $200 rebate more off of that price to take them into the $600 range. These numbers are after applying all rebates. I don't think a single OEM has a rebate-free laptop under $1000.

And why is that?
