Help going from IDE to Sata on DFI LP NF2 Ultra

TIA for any help:

As of now its all IDE.

First I want to add just a SATA plextor DVD burner.

Eventually I want to add a SATA primary HDD.

How much can I mix and match? No RAID for a while so not an issue.

Is it plug and play or do I need BIOS/Driver updates for Sata???

thanks again!

try plug and play first, if it doesn't work, the drive should come with a floppy disk or possible installation setup somehow, bios or what not

SATA HD's need floppy disks a lot of the time, so don't expect your SATA HD to work like IDE's upon boot

Thanks Valk for the info.

I only have 2 HDD both IDE and the one Optical drive which will be the sata Plex. For optimal performance would it be best to make both IDE HDD on the primary IDE chain, or make them both masters with one on each IDE chain?

Thanks again, I'll just have to fiddle and work it out, I'm sure it can't be as bad as the old days of playing jumper games with 386 PCs and BIOSs. What a pain they were compaired to modern front ends and real time changes without even reboots... sorry for waxing off topic.

The SATA drivers might be on the motherboard CD, which you can install off there since you don't have the exact same model. But, I have a LANParty 865PE and the windows installer automatically recognized the drive as a SATA drive without any special drivers.
