Please help, I have read the forums and such and I am having no luck, I must be
missing something easy and it is about to drive me crazy! I can not get this sytem
to OC any at all, not that it's not stable just that it refuses to actually do it.

I can make all the changes in the BIOS and then boot into windows and check CPUz and not all the settings "stick".

The BIOS reports the OCed speed but not windows. Here are my exact BIOS settings
and a sceen shots of what CPUz reports for them.

Notice the FSB is 201 not 220! Everything else seems to be correct but I can not get that FSB to change at all no matter what I do.

Setup:
Asus A8N-E V2 (same issue with both 1006 & 1010 BIOS)
Athlon X2 4800+
OCZ Platinum DDR PC-3200 Dual Channel 2GB (2x1GB) #OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K
eVGA 7800GT
OCZ Powerstream 520 SLI ready OCZ520ADJSLI

Jumperfree configuration
Overclock Profile -- Manual
CPU Frequency -- 220MHz
PCI Express Clock -- 100MHz
DDR Voltage -- 2.60
CPU Multiplier -- x11
PCI Clock Sync Mode -- 33.33MHz

CPU Configuration (shows 2420MHz CPU)
Hypertransport Freq -- 4x
AMD K8 Cool n Quiet -- Disabled

Dram Configuration (other than below same as SPD)
Memclock Index -- 266MHz
S/W, H/W Dram over 4GB -- Disabled

Tried Auto PCI-E and PCI? Some people have problems locking PCI-E on Asus boards (P4 ones) by setting it to 100MHz but Auto works fine, your bios may be defaulting because of that... Also, your Ram Index is 266MHz down from 400MHz? Newer motherboards support a DDR533 setting which would run at an external clock of 266MHz.

No trouble here with mine - you seem to have the settings right. Try increasing the DDR voltage to 2.85.
The RAM timings on this board could be tricky - a little experimentation should work
I found BIOS 1006 to be the best. I still play around with various setting but the settings below are the best for me.
Remember the trick is to find the best ram timings independent of cpu speed.
Then the max stable cpu speed independentlyof the RAM speed.
Put it all together.
USE A64Mem freq 1.1 utility to play around.
MY system is as follows
A64 3000+ running at 300 X 9 CPU VCORE AT 1.50V
OCZ PC4000 running at 333
Timings are 2.5 7 4 3 11 14 4 3 1T volts 2.85V
PCI-e 100
PCI LOCK 33.33

Thanks for the input yall,

I have the memory slowed down so it is not an issue while overclocking the CPU (at least trying to). I will turn it back up later.

The PCI-E does not have an auto setting and the PCI on auto made no difference.

I bumped the DDR volts a little more Regalk but no difference so I moved it to 333 still nothing so I turned it back down.

See what I mean, why will it not move from 201MHz!?

Well doing it from the BIOS does not work period for me the FSB will not go post what I listed.

However if I use AI Booster to do it from within windows it works just fine. Well sorta, seems AI Booster forgets it was OCing and goes back to normal sometimes.

So I can do it in windows but if I do it in the BIOS windows ignors it.

I have use 1006, 1008 and 1010 BOIS and all are the same though the 1006 seems to keep the AI boost settings (not forget it is overclocking) best.

Enable your diskette drive and it will overclock.

I was not able to OC my Venice 3200+ until I did this seemingly irrelevant change.

Man, thanks bigscience that fixed it!

What a stupid thing to cause this issue!

So for the archives to overclock a A8N-E you have to enable the floppy drive wether you have one or not.

Can someone please explain me how this works? LOL

Enabling floppy diskette drive in BIOS is news to me - would have never guessed.
Glad your system can OC now. The A8N-E is an excellent board.

I am running 1006 Sumotku, but it did the same thing with 1008 and beta 1010.

Hey I was poking around the BIOS and this board doesn't really have mem dividers, or am I missing it? How can I change the ram speed independently of the FSB? Do I just choose DDR333 instead of DDR400 in memory settings?

Yes just choose a slower memory setting, it lists it as the DDR value so just half it.

Go To Advanced ----> CPU Configuration ------> DRAM Settings (or) Configuration (not exactly sure if its Settings or Config). That's where the MEM timings and speeds are.
