Help! Getting this error when trying to renew IP: An error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection

I got a new wireless card for my laptop and after installing it it wouldn't detect the internet, and gives me this error when I try to renew the IP address:

an error occurred while renewing interface wireless network connection An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket

anyone know how to solve this problem?

Make sure the drivers are properly installed and the card is properly configured.

it is, in fact the local area connection is giving me the same error now...

have you tried going to the dos prompt and

type "ipconfig /release"

shouldn't this be in tech support forum?

winsock error. fix your registry and replace a DLL file or two. easy fix. run a google. What's happening here is that either your computer's winsock library got corrupted, or it's using 127.0.0.1 to try to grab an ip and such. I would say the former because the latter usually gives a socket 0 or 10047 error.
