HELP! getting no post from computer! PLZ!

hi. I'm building a rather typical computer. the specs are:

1 GHZ AMD T-BIRD
128 MB PC2700 DDR
20 GIG HDD
8x Burner
MSI K7T266 PRO2-A MOBO
ATI RAGE 32 MB VID CARD

I've tried everything possible, but i still get a no post from to comp. I think it may be the mobo? or the CPU? the cpu is about 3-4 years old. But I never o'clocked it and it was working previously a few weeks ago. I've tried switching memory, no go, switched P/S, no go, switched vid card, still no go, also I tried just powering the hard drive and the cpu and vid card. still no go. im thinking its the mobo now. blah. can anyone recommend me a extremely stable and reliable socket-a mobo? or suggest any other way to get at this problem?

thanks

this is a rather common problem I hear and I can tell you what 3 things it might be: CPU, RAM, or mobo.

I've tried switching memory, no go

It's not the memory.

So now: CPU or Mobo.

Just to be sure TAKE EVERYTHING OUT... IDE devices, keyboard/mouse, ps2, usb, everything. with just a cpu in, reset the CMOS and turn on the computer. If you do not get a beep, you either have a bad mobo or CPU, if you do get a beep, your mobo and cpu is good.

or the CPU? the cpu is about 3-4 years old. But I never o'clocked it and it was working previously a few weeks ago

What I would do is have a friend with a board that can run that CPU -- stick it in his mobo and see if it boots. don't worry, if it's bad it won't ruin his mobo. If his system boots then you've got a mobo. If it don't -- bad CPU.

As a matter of fact, I have this SAME EXACT problem right now, and I just barely figured it out that my CPU was bad.

What I'm guessing is that either you're motherboard is shorting the CPU and ruined it OR the CPU is bad and the motherboard is fine. If you wanna ask any more questions i will keep on eye on this thread tonight if you post back.
