Help getting microphone working in vista

I know the mic works because it works on laptop w/vista

I goto recording devices and there is microhone high def AD 1, microphone 2 (with a green check like its hooked up), line in HD AD 3, dig input device spdif 4.

All of them say working, under properties 1,2,3 were muted i unmuted but still didnt help

any solution i have no clue why this isnt working

EDIT: got it working by reinstalling specific drivers not relying on vista drivers and turning boost on.... never had to use boost before though
