Help getting a job

So basically, for the past two years I haven't been able to hold a job for more 7 months and my last job was for only four months. I moved to Boston and I'm not getting any call backs whenever I apply for jobs and I think this is the reason why. Is there anything I can do to 'fudge' my resume just to get my foot in the door somewhere?

A resume isn't all about past employment. Maybe you could enhance it by doing things with your life instead of fudging it?

Yeah, that's kind of the eventual plan but I'm really looking to like...get a job putting cans on a shelf and I can't even seem to manage that. I don't know what the fucking problem is but that's the only thing I can think of.

You scoff, but at least MrLee can now put "I know where pickles come from" on his resume. From an employer perspective, that looks good.

What kind of background do you have? What do you want to be doing? What positions are you applying for?

Keep trying. I don't know what you're aiming for, but it can take a while before any calls.

Hopefully you will have a good reason for why you can't keep a job and have made improvements so that you can keep a job longer.

Despite what everyone here says, Boston is slowing down for tech jobs now, especially for those with less than 5 years experience. More jobs are moving out os state than coming in. As for your resume, don't fudge it. That will hurt you more.

Employers don't let people go for no good reason. If we're talking about stocking shelves or cooking burgers and you aren't able to keep a job for as long as you'd like I doubt this is something ATOT can help with.

I'm ignoring all you pickle haters...

A long history of shit jobs that no one wants. Working in factories, then a hospital lab, then back to factories (this is where the trouble started) and then from there a lot of odd jobs.

I just want a supermarket gig or some other shit job. I haven't even gotten callbacks on apps for fucking housekeeping positions (laugh all you like) and I really don't understand the goddamn problem here. Perhaps someone with HR experience could help me out?

I've never ever been fired. Every employer has begged me to stay when I decieded to leave. They just...were never willing to be even remotely flexible with the schedule or bump my pay up.

Well first off why did you have so many jobs in a short amount of time?

I understand. I am working at a supermarket now working like a slave for minimum wage. It sucks because I have to commute for 45 minutes just to get there. I have a BSEE too and its just really annoying taking commands from a high schooler, but I need to pay my bils somehow.

Why on gods earth would you expect to get a pay increase or flexibility on your schedule with less than a year of employment??

If it's been under a year then just don't list those employers. If you've had one or two jobs in the last year then absolutely that is going to hurt your resume. General rule of thumb is to only include them if you were there longer than a year.

I don't really want to get into it but let's say I was justified in leaving every single time.

That may be true but sometimes you have to put up with a little uncomfortable-ness for a while to get somewhere in life.

You may have been justified, but 99% of the time someone leaving as many jobs as you have is an indication of other problems.

So yes you might be the 1% but when looking at a resume how are they supposed to know that.

from teh sounds of it, you want a crap job that will pay you a decent wage. That will not happen. You work the crap job to just cover basic expenses and you look for a a better job in the process.

It could be a lot of things. I'm no HR person, but maybe you're overqualified and they're worried you'll bail out on them once you find a better job? I'd look at some smaller stores (maybe some of the liquor stores) and see if they need anyone to stock shelves or something. You might be able to talk to a manager / owner and lay out your situation.

Good luck!

What do you do when applying for a new job and all employers but your most recent one have gone out of business or been bought out, and the managers you worked for have all moved on to places unknown?
