Hey all,

I threw a system together as a present for my mom out of some spare components I have, and a few I had to pick up.

The primary hard drive in the machine is a Wester Digital 8GB hard drive, with XP pro on it. Boots fine, everything runs fine on it.

She has an old Wester Digital Caviar 1.3 gb (shows up as WDC 31600h in Device Manager) that I pulled out of her old Gateway 120 System, so she can get some information of it.

I have it setup as the Secondary Master, with the CD-Rom drive hooked up as the Secondary Slave on the same cable. The hard drive jumpers is set to cable select. It detects fine in BIOS, but does not show up in My computer, or under Disk Manager in Administrative Tools. It does however show up in Device Manager under Disk drives as a WDC 31600H. It does have Win 98 First Edition on it. (fat 16 maybe?) It worked fine in the gateway before I yanked it.

When I first put the system together I put win 98 SE on it, and had the same problem, could not see that hard drive.

I have installed the latest 4 in 1 updates to no avail, flashed the bios, no avail.

Motherboard: ABit KT7A (non raid)

Im thinking maybe I have to reformat it, but that really aint an option, If possible I really need to get this info off this drive.

Any Ideas suggestions?

Do you have access to a copy of Norton Ghost ?

If so you could install it , make the boot disk , boot and then image the file to the other hard drive .

Then boot normally into windows and then use Ghost Explorer to extract the files you need and then you can go and format the drive .
