I've cooked lobsters before by dropping them live into boiling water. Am I on the verge of becoming a serial killer, because I fail to see the difference between that and grilling a cat. Sure, I'm going to eat that lobster, but I'm still just as willing to kill a living animal.

I don't see why they need to use tax money for this but I guess they do. I heard executions cost a lot, I don't know why. They should just strangle to death, or let them die of hunger in a cell. (oil and fire sounds fun but it would cost more) I'm sure there are ways to get rid of these people without having it to cost so much money.
LMAO -

So your answer is to torture the guy that 'tortured' a cat??

"no

animals are property/chattel, how can you murder a cat?"

Yeah, that's ridiculous. Animals are supposed to be properties, so I can't understand people wanting to elevate the status of animals.

Now, don't pull that slavery crap. That would be an accidental application and a weak analogy. They were humans, not a different specie. If you're to elevate the status of animals, then we must all turn to vegetarians and forbid any harm done to any creatures. Remember in India the cows are worshipped, so are the rats/mice and the snakes. This is just so preposterous.

The article does not even care to tell us the ages of the accused. Perhaps they were little kids. There's no way I would give a kid life imprisonment for torturing an animal. On the other hand, if it were an adult, I would consider a stiff punishment since chances are that he would harm a human being too. Nonetheless, there's no way I would give anyone life imprisonment over an animal's life. The wild life animals sure as hell and admirably don't give a hoot when they hurt a human being, and it isn't always in self-defence; nor do the crazy so-called pets that attack a defenceless person.

This is beyond preposterous.

Look at the people sponsoring this petition. It's those animal "rights" nutcases who want to outlaw vivisection, furs, testing on animals, and want us to stop eating meat. They cannot be allowed to win.

Let's see what else they want to ban:
Animal Fighting
Animals in Entertainment

Dog-Fighting

Bull Fighting

Cockfighting
The Circus

Rodeos

Marine Parks

Greyhound Racing

Horse Racing

Zoos

Animal Skins
Animal Experimentation

Fur

Leather
Vivisection

Companion Animals
Factory Farming & Veganism

I should invite that guy over to my neighborhood and let him play with some of the cats here.

Just kidding really, but I hate cats. While what this guy did shows he's not wrapped too tight at the moment, it is just a cat. A fine for a few hundred is more than sufficient to teach him he should keep his warped sense of humor under control or, if it's someone's property, then whatever the law provides for destruction of property or for intentionally killing someone's pet.

this is so stupid, i agree all this animal rights crap is getting out of hand.
what he did was wrong, but in the end, ITS STILL A CAT.

i say the proper punishment should be $500 and 1 week in jail MAX, if i were in charge it would be something like 3 nights and $250 fine.

The sentence seems about right... though I wish they could cane the bastard or something else similar. Heck, forget the 5years... just the cane the snot out of the bastard for a few months. That should be enough...

that brings up a good point, imprisonment is a failed form of punishment

we need to restore corporal punishment , it works, long term incarceration is worthless

It's an ugly crime but I'm not willing to foot the bill to support this guy forever in jail. 6 months, like somebody earlier pointed out, sounds about right. 6 months is a long time. He will be able to think about what he did wrong.

Heck, my grandfather's friend shot his wife to death back in the sixties and only served 3 years. He was sorry as hell about it and never commited another crime after he got out.

Life in jail? you kidding me right? Are you telling me that killing a kitten is right up there with killing a human being? mmm...no! I love animals, but life in prison is not just, it's a knee jerk reaction. Try 3 years with eligibility for parole in 1 + fine him 10k + 300 hours of community service in an animal shelter.

5 years. It's not that he should get less, but that other criminals should get more.

Rape someone? Get tortured to death.
Kill someone in cold blood? Firing squad.
Steal physical property? Get your hand cut off.

There are some times when an eye for and eye can be effective. It would be on a case by case basis of course, but there is no reason for a child molester or rapist to live. Notice I don't mean statutory rape, but forced rape.

this is so retarded. I have plenty of friends with relatives in asia that eats cats and dogs.

people have too much time on their hands, it's a cat. and it is sad to see someone trying so hard to put a dude in jail for killing a freaking cat when real criminals are doing less time. I tell ya, if our justice system wasn't so inconsistent, I say kill all the rapist, child molestors, and murderers. of course their next of kin has to pay for the bullets.

If you all read the article you'll notice the guy had previous criminal charges. he's not a saint who accidently stepped on a cat.

Get a job. It's not hard. Get one picking watermelons, at McDonalds, roofing, go to the local temp place and get one of those 5am hard labor jobs.

If that fails, you can find food in the woods if you have to. Bark, berries, roots, fish, animals, it's all there in most parts of the world. Even in winter.

If you can't do that, then ask people for food. There are still some decent people who will give you money and/or food.

Your next choice would be a charity or church. They exist in many towns and cities.

If *all* of that somehow fails, then I'm sure a judge would be able to see that you made every attempt at a legitimate way to acquire food. Not everything is black and white.
